Phytoremediation is the use of plants and trees to remove or neutralize contaminants in polluted soil or water.  It is an idea whichis fairly old and was first practiced by farmers.  They knew that rotating crops was a way to fix the nitrogen content of the soil.  Today, this idea is used as a way to use plants and trees to pull pollutants from the soil, metabolize pollutants or stimulate the growth of microbes in soil or water.   This idea is especially important as more and more environmental concerns are identified in today's world.
